English Vocabulary Tips



The key to a better vocabulary is regular practice and progress. Maybe you can’t learn a hundred new words a day, but you can learn one or two a day, totaling thousands of new words over the years. One of the best ways to improve your vocabulary is to write a word with its part speech, meaning and a sentence on a piece of paper. Vocabulary is very important. If you don’t have vocabularies, you have nothing. But not by reading some kind of novel, it’s difficult especially with someone have just known a little bit words. I suggest you to read some books that’s fun or that’s kind of book that you really like. And when you read it, don’t try to remember or use dictionary, just guess the meaning of it. Forget the memorize, just focus on the meaning of the story. And you’ll learn this word naturally, you’ll remember it forever. Here are some ways to improve your vocabulary.

1. Read, read, and read!
The more you read especially novels, newspapers, also magazines, the more you’ll be exposed to. As you read and uncover new words, use a combination of attempting to derive meaning from the context of the sentence as well as from looking up the definition in a library.

2. Make it a priority to learn new words
If you want to improve your vocabulary more quickly, you have to make at least a small commitment. Decide to learn one new word every day or two.

3. Make your vocabulary practical
Start by learning the words that can express what’s most important to you. For example, learn more of your trade language, the words that are commonly used in your business or hobby or vacation.

4. Use a journal
It’s a good idea to keep a running list of the new words you discover so that you can refer back to the list and slowly build them into your everyday vocabulary.

5. Start learning where you are
As you read, if you come across an interesting word that you don’t understand, don’t just bleep over it. Take the time to look it up in a dictionary. Write it down and use it later.

6. When you learn a word, use it immediately and frequently
Make it a game. Slip your new word into conversation with as many different people as you can. Simply talking with other people can help you learn discover new words. As with reading, once you hear a new word, remember to jot it down so that you can study it later and then slowly add the new word to your vocabulary.
