MODALS TIMES (2)


Hi, we meet again! As you know, there are many about grammar that you must have learned. In the time, my partner (rianda) has posted last week, so I’ll continue about the explanation of grammar again :)

2. Adverbs Of Frequency is used for explaining the degree of frequency when we do something. Usually used in Simple Present Tense.
 


 Form 1 : (+) S + V1 + O + Adv. of Frequency
                (-) S + do/does + V1 + O + Adv. of Frequency
               (?) Do/does + S + V1 + O + Adv. of Frequency


e.g.: (+) We visit our grandmother once a week.
         (-) We don’t visit our grandmother once a week.
         (?) Do we visit our grandmother once a week ?

Form 2 : S + Adv. of Frequency + V1 + O


e.g.:
·         Usually, I eat breakfast before I go to school.
·         Sometimes, they visit the zoo.
·         She seldom comes late to school.
·         You almost always attend the meeting.
·         I often read a science book.
·         I  always do the homework at home.
·         Austin hardly ever joins the Biology class.
·         She almost never makes some noises.
P.S. : Usually and sometimes can come at the beginning of a sentence.


e.g.:
·         She doesn’t always help her mother.
·         He doesn’t always come late to school.
·         We don’t always go out in the night.
·         They don’t always do their housework before go to school

Or : S + never + V1 + O

e.g.:
·         Hazel never tells the truth.
·         We never cook the dinner.

e.g.:
·         Do you usually go home late?
·         Does he always ride his car to school?
·         Do they usually come late at school?

CONVERSATION
Daisy : What time do you get up in the morning, Ruth?
Ruth : I get up at 5 o’clock every morning. How about you?
Daisy : Between 5 and 6 a.m.
Ruth : Well, what do you do every morning?
Daisy : I always to do the housework such as watering flowers and sweeping the floor before I go to school.
Ruth : I usually do as same as you did. Do you always have breakfast before you go to school?
Daisy : Hmm, sometimes. What about you?
Ruth : I almost always have breakfast.


3. Passive Voice is used for make a sentence in the passive form. If the subject have been knew in common, a word “by” – which show who the subject is – don’t need to use in it.

 

                   

                     Active : S + V + O
Form :
                    Passive : S + be + V3 + by….. (The doer)



e.g.:
·         The novel is written by Daisy Claire.
·         She was allowed to skip the class.
·         They were supposed to tell the truth.
·         Hannah had been taught how to speak French very well.
·         I am clawed by my own cat.
·         We were forced to steal the computer.

e.g.:
·         I am not allowed to attend the party.
·         He will be not grounded for an hour now.
·         You are not supposed to drive a car before you get the driver license.
·         She has been not sent to the California to continue her study.

                       

e.g.:
·         Will she be chosen as the American Idol?
·         Has he been allowed to attend the meeting?
·         Was the cat fed by Taylor this evening?
·         Were you grounded for 2 hours?


4. Used To is used for explain a habit that has done in the past, but not been doing anymore at this moment.

 


Form : S + used to + V1/be + O
           

e.g.:
·         I used to have a cat pet.
·         She used to cry if her mom didn’t buy a balloon for her.
·         They used to collect stamps.
·         You used to join singing contest.


e.g.:
·         He didn’t use to play a kite when he was a kid.
·         They didn’t use to let me drink alcohol.
·         We didn’t use to wake up early.
·         You didn’t use to study hard.


e.g.:
·         Did I use to pee in the pants when I was 4?
·         Did you use to play volleyball when you were still in high school?
·         Did he use to drive his own car?
·         Did Ronnie use to collect dolls when she was 6?
